Can my siding be power-washed?
Yes! Well-hung siding can last many years and
power-washing older siding may drastically improve the appearance
of your home. However, make sure you contact a powerwashing professional. Not only can this type of cleaning damage siding and paint, there are safety concerns to keep in mind as well when washing the second and third stories.
I've accidentally melted a piece of siding with
my grill. What can I do?
If that siding is still being manufactured then
that one piece can be replaced. It is also possible to match up
a different brand. You can also move the melted piece to a less
conspicuous area and replace it with a good piece.
What kind of return on my investment will I get
with new siding and windows?
In strong real estate markets new siding can yield
a 125% return on investment, second only to adding a master suite
(but usually at a fraction of the cost.)
How long does new siding usually take to install?
New siding can be installed in just a few days
with minimal disruption to your daily activities.
Can new vinyl siding be installed over my existing wood or asbestos shingles?
In many cases the answer is yes. It really
depends on the condition of the existing surface. If the siding
is not rotten we prefer to leave it on, as long as it does
not protrude too far from the wall. There is some added insulation
value in leaving it in place. To know for sure, we’d
need to see it.
What do you do about the electrical outlets,
hose connections, cable TV wires, fences, etc. that are currently
attached to my exterior walls?
Every house we work on has these same considerations,
some more than others. We typically cover any low voltage
wires to make things more attractive. We utilize vinyl siding
accessories for electrical outlets, dryer vents, gable vents,
and the like. Finally, our experience allows us to come up
with a method to re-attach fences and gates that is often
different for every home. Be assured that there is nothing
on your home that we haven’t run into before.
Can new vinyl siding be installed year round?
Absolutely. We work 12 months a year. It
is a little easier to install siding in the spring through
fall seasons because the days are longer and the weather is
better, but there is no reason that work cannot be done most
days in the winter. In fact, because it is a bit more difficult
to keep our siding men busy in the winter months, we usually
are able to do projects for a slightly lower price.
Are there any new styles or colors of vinyl
siding, or are the choices limited to the same 8 or 9 colors
that have been around for years?
Indeed, there are many new colors, and new
styles that have been developed to make vinyl siding look
very much like wood. In fact we have done projects where you
could not tell if the finish was real cedar or vinyl without
actually feeling the surface. |
